What's not to love about the French Bistro dining experience?

Fresh, carefully-sourced seasonal produce, clear, straight-forward flavour combinations with unfussy presentation…

Add to this a broad, well-considered beverage list, attentive and informal service in a charming, quiet terrace on a tree-lined back street in historic Redfern, Sydney.

As lovers of French food, we offer Sydneysiders the quintessential French Bistro dining experience. Steak-frites, freshly shucked oysters, Coquilles St Jacques (scallops), incredible fromage, crème brûlée and more.

Bistro St Jacques… not a formal French restaurant… not another café… a Bistro!

about

Our Steak Frites

We use grass-fed eye fillet served with homemade organic fries and fantastic homemade sauces like Café de Paris butter, Poivrade, and Bordelaise. If you haven’t had Bordelaise sauce before, do yourself a favour and try it! It’s a stock reduction sauce with red wine and bone marrow named after the famous Bordeaux region in southwest France. It is rarely done in restaurants these days, given the time required to make it, and it is rarely done well.

about

Our Wines

We approach wine with three things in mind: food + wine compatibility; an interesting range & the sustainability of production. Most of our wines are made by small handcraft producers who practice organic and or biodynamic growing and range from ‘classical’ to a more ‘natural, low fi’ hand-off approach in the shed.
